Activity For Kids:

Salt Dough Handprint Ornaments Gift

I like the idea of making beautiful DIY ornaments for the Christmas tree every year.

If you include hand print crafts you can see how your kids have grown each year.

Ingredients for clay:

  • 4 cups of flour

  • 1 cup salt

  • Water to mix

This activity is inspired by ideas from Salt Dough Handprint Ornaments Gift.

This activity is great to teach your kids:

Fine motor skills involve movement of the smaller muscle groups in your child's hands, fingers, and wrists.

Developing fine motor skills will help your child to write and prepares her for school. But it will also help your children with everyday tasks like eating, and dressing themselves.

Creative activities help children express themselves and create something from nothing, explore materials and activities and use their imagination.

Colour recognition activities helps children get to know the different colors and color blending and matching.

Step 1

In a mixing bowl, add the salt and flour and gradually add water and mix.

It's quite tricky to get the consistency right but it comes out right with a few tries

Step 2

Once your dough is the right consistency, roll it out thickly with a rolling pin

Step 3

Add a hole with a straw to the top where you want to make the handprint

Step 4

Press your kids hand in the dough under the little hole

Step 5

Cut a circle around the hand print to make the shape of the ornaments

Step 6

If you want to you can paint the handprints or add glue and glitter to it

Step 7

Place in a 150 degree oven for an hour. Or you can air dry over night for 24 hours.

Step 8

Add a ribbon through the hole in the ornament

These salt dough handprint ornaments that I did last year, turned out to be one of my most treasured ornaments.
